River Trent and Fowlea Brook Convergence

The two watercourses presently converge in the centre of City Road Junction. As part of the scheme, both watercourses must be temporarily diverted to enable construction of the new junction overbridge. The existing River Trent culvert structure shown above is then modified to enable the underpass to be constructed. Fowlea Brook will join the river at this point and the River Trent will thereafter run in open channel, parallel to the underpass carriageways, before entering the Cornwallis Street area via a new culvert at Woodhouse Street. The existing corrugated culvert structures then become redundant.
