Progress and Programme – September 2006

The River Trent and Fowlea Brook channel that runs adjacent to Maclagan Street is now complete. The environmental barrier has been installed and Whieldon Road footbridge is now open to the public. Work will start in the coming weeks with the landscaping and planting of the area and the construction of a pedestrian footpath.

The A500 northbound traffic has been diverted onto the completed Whieldon Road off-slip, this has to allowed work to continue on the A500 mainline from Whieldon Road through City Road underpass and onto Stoke Road underpass. A pedestrian crossing has been installed at Whieldon Road Bridge and the footpath completed to Victoria Park.

Work on the Whieldon Road on-slip is continuing with the construction of a reinforced earth wall and environmental barrier. On completion lane one of Whieldon Road slip road will be surfaced, street lighting and other finishes installed.
Alterations to the abutments of the old canal bridge south of City Road are now substantially complete. Work will continue with the brick facing and reinstatement of the canal towpath. The stairs and cycle paths north and south of the new City Road canal bridge are also substantially complete, work will continue with the surfacing of the cycle path, the paving of the pedestrian footpaths and remaining sections of wall across the canal bridge.

Work is continuing at City Road junction with the surfacing and paving of the permanent footpaths through the junction, landscaping and the completion of Church Street and City Road, including the surface overlay and street lighting.

The pumping stations beneath City Road and Stoke Road underpasses are now complete. Stoke Road pumping station has been successfully commissioned and City Road pumping station will be commissioned in the coming days. The surfacing of the final section of the A500 mainline beneath City Road underpass has started and on completion the A500 mainline will be substantially complete along the length of the project. Work to complete the remaining finishes to the mainline is continuing with the installation of the final sections of safety fencing and verge fineshes, street lighting, mainline traffic signs and white lining.

Work at Stoke Road junction is continuing with the installation of the street lighting and paving and surfacing of the pedestrian footpaths, the landscaping and planting of the junction will follow this. The final finishes to the approach to Liverpool Road, Shelton Old Road and Stoke Road will also be completed soon. The stairs and cycle paths at Stoke Road canal bridge are now substantially completed with work continuing with the surfacing of the paths, the reinstatement of the canal towpath and other finishes.
The existing environmental barrier adjacent to Liverpool Road with be demolished in the coming weeks and replaced with a landscaped embankment.

Work has started on the construction of the environmental barrier on the northwest slip road, which will be completed soon. The reed bed north of Stoke Road is now nearly complete, with work continuing with the landscaping and planting.
